Come Sunday—Frost Wind Ensemble Presented by Frost Music Live

Jennifer Grim, Frost’s new flute professor, performs a program of new music including Come Sunday, a piece co-commissioned by the Frost Wind Ensemble. Written by visiting composer Omar Thomas, the two-movement piece is a tribute to the Hammond organ’s central role in black worship services. The other highlight of the program, Lontano, was once introduced by composer Michael Martin as signifying “the journey of grief, what that is, and how familiar that is to all of us.”

Gerard Schwarz’s Debut—Frost Symphony Orchestra Presented by Frost Music Live

In his debut as Frost’s new conductor of the Frost Symphony Orchestra, Gerard Schwarz offers a varied and demanding program. It includes the suite from the ballet Estancia by Alberto Ginastera, one of the greatest 20th century composers of the Americas; Samuel Jones’s Tuba Concerto, which Schwarz has called “the finest solo work for that instrument ever produced,” featuring Frost faculty tubist Aaron Tindall; and the evening closes with Brahms’s magnificent and melodic Symphony No. 2.

A Starry Night in September—Valerie Coleman and Friends Presented by Frost Music Live

In her concert debut as Assistant Professor of Performance, Chamber Music and Entrepreneurship, Grammy-nominated flutist and composer Valerie Coleman is showcased in an evening of poetry, visual art, and her own original chamber music. Tonight’s performance includes poetry by Margaret Danner, Maya Angelou, and Langston Hughes as well as visual artwork by Sonya Clark. Musicology Professor Melvin Butler leads a 30-minute pre-concert discussion.

Lucie Arnaz Presented by Aventura Arts and Cultural Center

Lucie Arnaz is celebrating 50 plus years in show business on TV, in films, on Broadway, and as a recording artist and cabaret performer. She joins us as part of our Broadway Concert Series. Lucie received the Los Angeles Drama Critic’s Circle, Theatre World, and Outer Critic's Circle Awards for They’re Playing our Song. Other Broadway way credits include Neil Simon’s Lost in Yonkers and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.

Betty Buckley Presented by Aventura Arts and Cultural Center

Betty Buckley, legendary, multi-award-winning actress/singer whose career spans theater, film, television and concert halls around the world, joins us as part of our Broadway Concert Series! She most recently headlined the National Tour of the new Broadway Production of Hello Dolly! Tony Award Winner for Cats. Tony Award Nominee for Triumph Of Love. Other Broadway credits include 1776, Pippin, Song and Dance, The Mystery of Edwin Drood, and Carrie.

Lillias White Presented by Aventura Arts and Cultural Center

We are delighted to present the incredible Lillias White as part of our Broadway Concert Series. Lillias won the Tony Award, Drama Desk Award, and Outer Critics Circle Award for The Life and received a Tony Award nomination for Fela!. Other Broadway credits include Cats, Carrie, Dreamgirls, Once On This Island, How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying, and Chicago!

A Star is Born: The Concert Presented by Aventura Arts and Cultural Center

Judy Garland, Barbra Streisand and Lady Gaga each stole our hearts with A Star is Born. Now a trio of Broadway and NYC cabaret’s best voices join forces to celebrate the music from all three iconic film versions of A Star is Born featuring “The Man That Got Away,” “Shallow,” and the Academy Award-winning “Evergreen.” The concert will also include solo hits and iconic songs that brought these three female superstars to their respective versions of this film. There will be a free master class associated with this event and one or more singers will be chosen from the class to perform in the concert.

Featuring a core of professional dancers, a dynamic Cuban vocalist, award-winning Latin Ballroom couples, Argentinian gauchos, and traditional Spanish Flamenco dancers, An Evening at the Copacabana showcases music from around the world including songs made famous by Tito Puente, Celia Cruz, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Carmen Miranda, Desi Arnaz, Sammy Davis Jr., Count Basie, Perez Prado and other greats including Miami’s own Gloria Estefan, and the Spanish guitar styles of Carlos Santana.
