MOAD Moves with Marisol Blanco and the Sikan Afro-Cuban Dance Project Presented by Museum of Art and Design (MOAD) at MDC

Join choreographer and educator Marisol Blanco for an immersive Afro-Cuban folk dance experience presented as part of MOAD Moves in the Knight Skylight Gallery at the Freedom Tower. Accompanied by three live percussionists and a vocalist, participants will be guided through traditional movements rooted in the cultural and spiritual practices of the Afro-Cuban dance. This interactive session offers a unique opportunity to connect with rhythm, history, and embodied storytelling through dance. Marisol Blanco is a performing artist, choreographer, and dance and music educator with over 30 years of experience dedicated to artistic practice and community engagement. Blanco holds a Masters at Cuba’s prestigious Higher Institute of Art (ISA) and recently completed her second Master of Fine Arts in Choreography at the Linda Berry Stein College of Fine Arts at Jacksonville University. Her work centers on preserving and sharing Afro-Cuban cultural traditions through performance and education. Admission to the Freedom Tower exhibitions and galleries following the class is included with your RSVP. Event attendees may park for free in the MDC garage at 500 NE Second Avenue, between NE Fifth and NE Sixth Streets. The Museum of Art and Design (MOAD) at MDC may document the event, including its attendees. "Love Lost & Found" Dance NOW! Miami Program III Season Finale Presented by Dance NOW! Miami

Love really is the pulse that creates the rhythm for our lives. Dance NOW! Miami’s Program III season finale features two world premieres that examine this universal emotion, and three repertory works. “Love-less: Dance of the Last Moho braccatus” is a contemporary ballet from Hannah Baumgarten, inspired by the fate of a small Hawaiian songbird. The program’s other world premiere is “Traces,” choreographed by Diego Salterini, and featuring the full company of ten dancers.

CCEMiami present “Las Mujeres que habitan en mí” feat. Irene Lozano Presented by Miami-Dade County Auditorium

The Cultural Center of Spain in Miami (CCEMiami) and Miami-Dade County Auditorium present FlamenGO 2026: “Las Mujeres que habitan en mí” featuring Irene Lozano on Friday, May 29 at 8:00 pm at the Koubek Center. “Las Mujeres que habitan en mí” (The Women Who Live in Me) is an intimate work in which Irene Lozano traces, through flamenco dance, music, and poetry, an emotional journey through the many feminine identities within her: the woman she has been, the woman she aspires to be, and the woman who remained silent. In this deeply personal performance, La Chiqui invites audiences on a powerful and soulful journey. Irene Lozano Ruiz (Málaga, 1985), known as La Chiqui de Málaga, is an internationally recognized flamenco dancer. She graduated in Spanish Dance and Choreography, specializing in flamenco, from the Superior Conservatory of Dance in Málaga. She has performed with renowned Spanish companies including Eva Yerbabuena, Javier Latorre, Rafael Esteves, Nani Paños, and Rubén Olmo. In 2013 she founded her own company. In 2022 she won the prestigious “Desplante” award for Best Dancer at the International Cante de las Minas Festival. Her latest work, “Presente”, premiered to critical acclaim at the Festival Flamenco de Jerez in 2024.

The 7th Annual Forward Motion Dance Festival Presented by Karen Peterson and Dancers Inc.

The 7th installment of The Forward Motion Dance Festival and Conference of Physically Integrated Dance is scheduled for May 15th (technical) 16th, (two performances) 17th, (two workshops and conference) 2026 at the Sandrell Rivers Theatre in Miami. The festival will highlight the works of three choreographers from REVolutions Dance Company (Frank Chavez, Merry Lynne Morris, Leymis Balanõs Wilmott from Tampa, Florida) and highlight the work of Artistic Director, Marisa Hamatodo and dance partner from Infinite Flow based in Los Angeles, California. Karen Peterson and Dancers will also present work from repertory favorites including “In The Blink of an Eye” and “Duets for Six” for her company of ten members. Renowned author and speaker Silva Laukkanen will serve as the guest conference facilitator and speak about dance inclusion in the public school sector for students with special needs on Sunday, May 17th at 12 noon. The event will include two performances, two workshops, and a round table discussion on a yet-to-be-announced topic, all centered around the theme of inclusive dance.
