The Chopin Foundation is proud to announce that we are shining the spotlight this month on the talented young pianists of South Florida. Every year we work with local piano teachers and schools to find the best young piano students to participate in the April CHOPIN for ALL free concert series. The young pianists are recommended by their teachers and audition before a panel of professionals to obtain a coveted spot on the recital program. Join us for this special event featuring over a dozen of the area’s most promising pianists - all under 18! - at this very popular all-Chopin concert.

Koubek Center Presents Little Havana Social Club: Tribute to Fania with Mimy Succar and the Mixtura Orchestra under the musical direction of Tony Succar and the participation of DJ Mr. Pauer. Get ready to dance to timeless salsa hits the next Little Havana Social Club: Tribute to Fania at 8 p.m. on Saturday, March 18, presented by Miami Dade College's (MDC) Koubek Center. The evening will feature music by Mimy Succar and the Mixtura Orchestra under the direction of two-time Latin Grammy Award-winning percussionist, producer, composer and arranger Tony Succar, and also with the participation of Latin Grammy-nominated musician, producer and DJ Mr. Pauer.

The Koubek Center presents FLAMENCO EN DOS ORILLAS

The Koubek Center will bring an intimate and experimental Flamenco performance featuring the new generation of artists who are paving the way for a new way of understanding and seeing Flamenco. We present artists from Spain who can experiment in an intimate space and offer our audiences the same experience of an authentic tablao. Flamenco En Dos Orillas is an artistic residency featuring the unique collaboration between artists from Spain and local artists from Miami who will work together for a week to create a new work to be presented to the community as a public event. Internationally recognized award-winning Antonio Rey, one of the most representative figures of the current flamenco guitar scene will be joined by multi-instrumentalist, producer, and composer Munir Hossn and his rich mix between Brazil, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa; one of the most sought out Cuban percussionist Roberto Vizcaino Jr; and Afro-Cuban lead vocalist Lenia Diaz.

West-Eastern Divan Ensemble Presented by Adrienne Arsht Center

RAVEL Sonata for Violin and Violincello DVOŘÁK Terzetto in C major for Two Violins and Viola, Op. 74 HINDEMITH Trauermusik for Strings ENESCU Octet for Strings in C major, Op. 7 The West-Eastern Divan Ensemble is the chamber-size spinoff of the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, a groundbreaking project founded in 1999 by Edward Said, the late Palestinian American writer and musician, and Daniel Barenboim, the acclaimed Israeli conductor and pianist. Grouping together Arab and Israeli musicians in an effort to promote peace and understanding, the orchestra crosses political, cultural and geographical boundaries while performing works by classical giants at concert venues worldwide. The Divan Ensemble features members of the orchestra and is led by its concertmaster, Michael Barenboim, son of Daniel Barenboim. The ensemble’s first American tour took place in February and March 2020 and included a performance at the Arsht Center. Returning to Miami, the ensemble continues the humanistic mission of its larger counterpart, while offering audiences an opportunity to enjoy intimate works by classical music’s greatest composers. One hour prior to this performance, join us in the Peacock Education Center for Classical Conversations, an exciting, behind-the scenes look at this performance led by Dr. Dorothy Hindman.

Las Migas: "Libres" Presented By Centro Cultural Español Miami (CCEM) and MDCA

On May 20, 2023, Las Migas will present their latest work “Libres”, winner of a Latin Grammy for Best Flamenco Album in 2022. Eighteen years ago, four women joined forces and talents to rebirth themselves as Las Migas – a group that would find its way to the top of the international flamenco music scene. Together, the passionate Gypsy voice of Carolina “La Chispa” Fernández, the violin of Laura Pacios, and the guitars of Marta Robles and Alicia Grillo create a world of modern flamenco accessible to all – with all the aromas of earth, air, fire and water, and messages to the soul that hit like waves of freedom, strength, and love.

Chopin for All - Michael Davidman Presented by Chopin Foundation of the US

This month’s CHOPIN for ALL free concert features Michael Davidman, a dedicated and disciplined young musician, who has already won numerous piano competitions, including third place and orchestra prize at the 2022 Long-Thibaud International Piano Competition, the 2021 American Pianists Association finalist award, winner of the 2019 Juilliard Gina Bachauer Competition, and first prize at the 2018 New York International Piano Competition chamber ensemble, among others. Michael completed his Bachelor of Music at the Curtis Institute of Music, his Master of Music degree at the Juilliard School, and he is currently pursuing an Artist Diploma at the International Center for Music (ICM), Kansas City, MO. Robert McDonald, Ford Mylius Lallerstedt, Jerome Lowenthal, Stephen Hough, and Stanislav Ioudenich have guided his musical and artistic development. Michael is also a recipient of the Chopin Foundation's 4-year Scholarship Program for Young Pianists (2012 – 2015). His S. Florida debut will feature works by Chopin. Faure and more!
