A Viennese Salute - Dmitry Ablogin Presented by Chopin Foundation of the US

Dmitry Ablogin has been championed by the press as “one of the most brilliant and creative keyboard artists of his generation.” His marked interest in historical pianos led him to Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts, where he studied fortepiano and historically informed performance with Jesper Bøje Christensen. A prize winner of numerous competitions, Ablogin brings to the Frost Chopin Academy and Festival a fresh perspective on a beautiful program centered around the Viennese tradition of Classical masters. Opening the concert with two waltzes by Chopin and Schumann’s Forest Scenes, is one of the most promising Polish pianists of the young generation, Kamil Pacholec. A finalist in the most recent Chopin Competition in Warsaw, Pacholec now studies with Kevin Kenner at the Frost School of Music. The Gramophone critic, Jed Distler has claimed that “many established pianists would be happy to claim Pacholec’s effortless fingerwork and idiomatic flair for themselves.” Do not miss this amazing opening concert of the 5th Frost Chopin Festival! JULIAN MARLEY + THE UPRISING Presented by Rhythm Foundation

The Colours of Royal Tour. Julian Marley is the son of reggae legend Bob Marley and Barbados-born Lucy Pounder. Born in the London, raised in Jamaica, Julian was steeped in a musical atmosphere and surrounded by the legends of reggae music. Julian 1996 debut album Lion in the Morning launched him into the public eye, leading to International tours with his band The Uprising, and a collaboration with Lauryn Hill on her Grammy-winning album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. He has joined his siblings Stephen, Cedella, Damian, and Kymani on inspired tributes, world tours and musical missions. At the invitation of the Jamaican government, he performed during the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, and celebrated alongside Jamaica's Gold medal winner Usain Bolt. Marley’s 2009 album Awake garnered several Grammy nominations and was awarded 2010 ‘Best Album of the Year’ at the International Reggae and World Music Awards. In the same tradition as his father, Julian is a devout Rastafarian whose music is inspired by life and spirituality. And while Julian has built a formidable reputation by transcending musical genres, we can be sure that all future endeavors that the music visionary embarks on will remain spiritual, moral and with a global mission.

Join us as we celebrate Pride Month with a journey through the past 50 years of Pride anthems. Pride Anthems creates a vibrant musical experience that celebrates, inspires and commemorates the legacy and power of the Stonewall Riots. From Donna Summer to Queen, George Michael, Erasure, Madonna, Lady Gaga and many others, these essential songs take us from disco to the present day. The story of the fight for LGBTQ+ equality is linked to this music, which evokes the struggles, heartache and liberation of queer lives then and now. Starring Natalie Joy Johnson, Kevin Smith Kirkwood and Jon-Michael Reese, with musical director Brian J. Nash, Pride Anthems is a show for all ages to come together in song and celebration of the LGBTQ+ community and how far it has come since Stonewall!

Brookly-Cumaná Presented by Koubek Center and Guataca

American composer and accordionist Sam Reider and Venezuelan cuatro player Jorge Glem were born to different creative traditions, but each has found fertile common ground in the hothouse of cross-cultural collaboration. Glem, a founding member of the Latin Grammy Award-winning C4 Trio, first bonded with Reider over shared musical virtuosity and curiosity, leading the way to a unique repertoire of songs that fuses enduring South-American forms like merengue and joropo with U.S. folk roots and traditional jazz. The title of the duo's LP, Brooklyn Cumaná, pays tribute to both of the players’ respective hometowns. The complex and beautiful fusion music of Glem and Reider's ever-expanding vision takes center stage for this live performance premiere at the Atrium.

Tangerine Dream Presented by the Rhythm Foundation

Tangerine Dream are an electronic music group founded in 1967 by Edgar Froese in Berlin. Over the past five decades, they have endured as seminal force in Krautrock, electronic music and dance music. Although the group released numerous studio and live recordings, a substantial number of their fans were introduced to Tangerine Dream by their film soundtracks, which total over sixty and include Sorcerer, Thief, Risky Business, The Keep, Firestarter, Legend, Near Dark, Shy People, and Miracle Mile. In 2013, Tangerine Dream composed the original score for Rockstar’s video game Grand Theft Auto V.

Aqua Garden Flow Presented by Rhythm Foundation

Coral Morphologic and Rhythm Foundation are proud to announce 'Aqua Garden Flow,' a special live audiovisual performance from legendary ambient musician Laraaji accompanied by Coral Morphologic films with animations by Robert Beatty. Laraaji, joined by Arji OceAnanda, will perform 'Aqua Garden Flow,' a new piece of music composed to the films of Coral Morphologic. This landmark performance is the inaugural installment in a new series of live audiovisual ambient collaborations from the Miami Beach Bandshell and Coral Morphologic as part of the Bandshell Laboratories initiative. Join us this May for an unforgettable, transcendent experience of healing music and film.
